Kino Arsenal: A Legacy of Film and Videokunst

From Silent Film to Contemporary Cinema

Kino Arsenal, renowned for its eclectic film programming and dedication to the preservation of cinematic heritage, has played a pivotal role in the Berlin film scene for over five decades. Founded in 1970, the cinema draws its name from Oleksandr Dovzhenko's seminal silent film, reflecting its deep connection to the art form's history.

A Destination for Independent Cinema

The Berlinale's Forum and Forum Expanded sections, curated by Kino Arsenal, showcase cutting-edge and experimental filmmaking from around the world. These independent platforms have nurtured the careers of countless emerging filmmakers and enriched the Berlin International Film Festival's reputation as a hub of cinematic innovation.

A Moving Transformation

In 2024, Kino Arsenal will bid farewell to its iconic Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz, relocating to the vibrant Westhalle of the silent green Kulturquartier in 2026. This transition marks an exciting new chapter for the cinema, providing it with a state-of-the-art venue to continue its mission of promoting film culture and preserving cinematic treasures.
